About The Book

When Ava arrives at Brodie’s Watch, she thinks she has found the perfect place to hide from her past.
Something terrible happened, something she is deeply ashamed of, and all she wants is to forget.
But the old house on the hill both welcomes and repels her and Ava quickly begins to suspect she is not alone.
Either that or she is losing her mind.
The house is full of secrets, but is the creeping sense of danger coming from within its walls, or from somewhere else entirely?

My Thoughts

This had been a haunted and mysterious novel, perfect if you are searching for a Halloween read!
Ava Collette needs to finish her cooking novel, so she uses the perfect excuse to take some alone time to recover from her guilty conscience. She really needs to finish her New England cuisine book. But the house she has rented is more intriguing than she ever expected and it will make her start to investigate Brodie’s Watch, the isolated house at the coastal peninsula of Maine. Because she is starting to have quite strange dreams, (or they are not dreams?) of a sea captain that has been haunting the house for a long time… What Ava will discover will be more haunting than the ghost per se, because the house has been rented previously and the women that rented it had disappeared! So, what’s really happening on this mysterious house? Of course you’ll have to read “The Shape of Night” if you want to know all the answers!
This had been an original read, it’s really atmospheric and makes you want to believe in ghosts, but don’t know for sure that what Ava is seeing is a ghost or simply consequences of her heavy drink… but it keeps you wondering for a while what’s really happening to the story! It is not really difficult to discover the mystery of the book, but it’s not everything on the mystery but the creeping isolation of the house, the visions and resolving the problems of the past to be someone new.
I would recommend you to read this book on a storming night, with a good whisky and a candle… you’ll love it! 😉
