The Girl Next Door by Phoebe Morgan
About The Book
Perfect mother. Perfect wife. Jane Goodwin has spent years building her picture-perfect life in the quiet village of Ashdon. So when sixteen-year-old Clare Edwards is found murdered in Sorrow’s Meadow, Jane knows she must first protect her family.
Every marriage has a few white lies and hers is no exception. Jane’s worked hard to cover up her dark secret from all those years ago – and she’ll do anything to keep it hidden…
What a twisted book!
After reading this book I am happy not to have a strong relation with my neighbours; I am well aware that all the families have their own secrets and problems, but really, I have enough with ours to start looking to the other ones!
Everything will start with the murder of a teenager, Clare Edwards, who will be explaining her last hour in first person. But who will be really telling the story is Jane, who has a lovely family to the world but really twisted problems behind closed doors. She will be obsessed with Clare’s killing, but we have to say too, that she was already obsessed with her family since the beginning!
We will read the police procedural on the case thanks to DS Madeleine Shaw, who knows some of the involved in the case and wants to discover the truth.
I have to say that I knew the truth since the beginning, but this didn’t keep me away of the story, I wanted to know the full motive and the ending, of course!
This is not a book to like the characters, because none of the relations explained on the book are lovely or kind, everything seems to be surrounded by lies and half trues; I don’t want to think that my life is this way… please tell me that these situations only occur on books, because lately I am reading too much about “normal” families with a secret agenda!
This book is addictive and twisted, don’t let the “happy faces” trick you for one second, because even if these families have a lot of money, they are troubled too!
