About The Book

England, 1917
Reeling from the death of her fiancé, Stella Marcham welcomes the opportunity to stay with her pregnant sister, Madeleine, at her imposing country mansion, Greyswick – but she arrives to discover a house of unease and her sister gripped by fear and suspicion.
Before long, strange incidents begin to trouble Stella – sobbing in the night, little footsteps on the stairs – and as events escalate, she finds herself drawn to the tragic history of the house.
Aided by a wounded war veteran, Stella sets about uncovering Greyswick’s dark and terrible secrets – secrets the dead whisper from the other side…

My Thoughts

Do you know the history of your house? The people who lived there before you and their stories?
The story is centered around 1917, where Stella Marcham is grieving her fiancé death and she is going to live with her pregnant sister and brother-in-law at Greyswick. Stella will be accompanied with the special Annie Burrows, the family maid.
The story will be told between the present and some flashbacks from Stella’s past, making the story more complete and layered.
The story is very well plotted and the characters are described to the detail, but don’t expect to like them, because that’s what makes the story haunted, all of them have secrets and they would do anything to keep them hidden. If you add the mysterious things that happen at the house (mysterious toy soldiers appearing at their bedrooms and a baby crying at night) be prepared to not sleep at all this night! But there’s much more than that, because Stella is deeply depressed and her sister will start listening to a baby crying at night. And when Stella and Annie will start listening to the baby too, no one will believe them. I really can’t think what it has to be being dismissed for being a woman! But what you should be asking is… Is there really a ghost at the house? What does it want?
I’ve never believe in supernatural, but this books made me keep my eyes open at night and having some nightmares… this book created a haunted atmosphere that transports the reader inside the story till the first page.
