The Guest List by Lucy Foley
About The Book
Guests are called to a remote island off the Irish coast to celebrate the wedding of the year – the marriage of Jules and Will. Everything has been meticulously planned, the scene is set, old friends are back together. It should be the perfect day. Until the discovery of a body signals the perfect murder.
A groom with a secret.
A bridesmaid with a grudge.
A plus one with motive.
A best man with a past.
It could be any, it could be all . . . But one guest won’t make it out alive.
What an amazing read, with so many secrets and twists that you won’t be able to stop talking about!
A wedding has to be a happy day, maybe not the best day of your life, but a day full of happiness and love; don’t you think? This is the story of a wedding in a small and remote island in Ireland, it’s a selective wedding, with only a few guests invited but not everyone will survive the wedding. Ready?
This story reminded me the classical Agatha Christie stories, the story told between the different characters and all of them with an ulterior motive to kill, the main question would be, who is the victim and the killer?
The story is told between different characters, the Bride, the Bridesmaid, the Plus One, the Best Man and the Wedding Planner. I’ll say from the beginning that I didn’t like the Bride, she is self-obsessed and cruel, her word is law and no matter what are the other people’s problems or fears, this is her wedding and she has payed to be the “queen” of the event. She hasn’t had an easy childhood or anyone that she could rely on with her fears/problems, but nothing made her less cruel or likable for my taste. The Bridesmaid is the half-sister of the Bride, they don’t have an easy relation, is more that they hate each other, but the Bridesmaid is having a difficult time and she doesn’t know how to leave the hole she seems to be in. The Plus One is the wife of the Best Man of the Bride, she doesn’t fit in the guests, doesn’t trust the bride or her husband, she wants this weekend to have some happy days with her husband, maybe nothing will end as she planned it. The Best Man was the best friend of the Groom, they have a long story together, secrets and stories that no one would like to know… but what will happen if they see the light? And the last one, the Wedding Planner, she is everywhere and listens to everything, she knows that this is not the wedding she planned, but doesn’t know how it will end…
I really liked the style how Lucy Foley wrote the book, short chapters and with cliffhangers to make the reader unable to stop reading, simply wanting to know more about the story. It’s not difficult to felt transported to this small island, where darkness is in every corner and evil seems to follow all the guests. Because there’s one guest that will not survive the wedding, but, there are so many possible killers that even a conspiracy between all the guests seems possible!
This is a book you have to read, you’ll love it, I am sure!
