Beast by Matt Wesolwski
About The Book
In the wake of the ‘Beast from the East ’ cold snap that ravaged the UK in 2018, a grisly discovery was made in a ruin on the Northumbrian coast. Twenty-four-year-old vlogger, Elizabeth Barton, had been barricaded inside what locals refer to as ‘ The Vampire Tower ’, where she was later found frozen to death.
Three young men, part of an alleged cult, were convicted of this terrible crime, which they described as a ‘prank gone wrong ’. However, in the small town of Ergarth, questions have been raised about the nature of Elizabeth Barton’s death and whether the three convicted youths were even responsible.
Elusive online journalist Scott King speaks to six witnesses –people who knew both the victim and the three killers – to peer beneath the surface of the case. He uncovers whispers of a shocking online craze that held the young of Ergarth in its thrall and drove them to escalate a series of pranks in the name of internet fame. He hears of an abattoir on the edge of town, which held more than simple slaughter behind its walls, and the tragic and chilling legend of the Ergarth Vampire…
I think this will be the shortest review I’ll write, READ THE BOOK!
Yes, not only this book but all the series, every year I wait impatiently for the new release of the series since I started reading Six Stories, I can’t wait to read the new “podcast”, because I know that every time it will surprise me, no matter the book or the theme that is related to.
This book is part of a series but you can read all of them as standalone. However, believe me, you have to read the full series, I can’t stop recommending it and everyone who has followed my advice loved the books, so go to the bookshop/library and start reading them, you’ll love the whole series!
In Beast the main theme is vampires, without trying to make the reader believe in them, simply telling the folklore and stories about them, letting the reader’s imagination to flow and create their own truths in their minds. That’s why I always love Matt Wesolowski books, he creates stories which make the reader break the mental walls and to make them believe the unbelievable; because sometimes the impossible is possible…
This is the case of a young influencer who decides to participate in a challenge a couple of years ago and after 6 days she is killed. The killers are in prison, but they never explained what happened that night… so now, it’s time to our favourite podcast to tell us what really happened that night. As always the series is told in six chapters, each one focused on one of the characters of the case; with interviews and stories.
Beast is a must read, dark, original, twisted and addictive, read it, NOW!
