About The Book
When police are called to a murder scene at the home of Aberdeen socialite Annabel Imray, they find themselves under pressure to get a conviction, and fast. Meanwhile, local PIs Wilma Harcus and Maggie Laird are at rock bottom, desperate for income. As Maggie contemplates replacing Wilma with an unpaid intern, an eccentric widow appoints them to search for her lost cat – and Wilma goes off-piste to negotiate a loan, with terrifying terms. As the fear caused by a series of sinister break-ins escalates, Maggie blames the aggressive language in public discourse for inciting violent crime. But before long, she finds she is in the danger zone herself.
Will Wilma manage to save her?
My Thoughts
Payback normally means revenge; so, what did the victim do to be murdered so violently? Everything seem connected to some thefts, and all the victims seem really scared. Why are they hiding? Payback is revenge in its purest. Ready?
This is the story of two local PIs, Maggie Laird and Wilma Harcus. Their business is not working as well as they would like, but their friendship makes them to continue pursuing the business in hope to make an improvement. When they accepted a case of a missing cat, they would never have expected to turn it so dangerous. You know that life is full of ups and downs… but is the case worth risking their life?
This had been a quick read, with some quick dialogue and some brave and intelligent characters; Maggie is the friend you always want on your side when you have a problem, loyal and resolute, she will not stop until she closes the case. As you can imagine the cat will turn in a much more deeper case mixing it with the case the police is investigating, with dark secrets included. As you can expect, this case will have more surprises than you ever thought! There will be some romance too, just a little, to make the book more interesting and making the reader more eager to discover more about the characters in the future.
Payback is possibly the book you need these days, it will make you disconnect from the weird reality we are living right now! Ready?
