My Thoughts

First of all, I would recommend you to not read the plot of this book, believe me, there are surprises and twists that will be more interesting if you don’t have any expectations with the story. I can just say that it’s not the book you are expecting, it has surprised me, in a very positive way.
This is the story of Nina, her best friend passed away recently and before dying she had made 3 promises to her; what she didn’t expect is that they will put her life and the ones she loves at risk. Was really Nina the good friend she always thought?
I’ll try to make this review without spoilers, it will not be easy, mainly because it’s not the book you think you’ll be reading (or at least I thought!). The story is told in first person by Nina, she is a cold woman, her friendship with Nina was not something sporadic but something she planned since she was young, now that she is gone she doesn’t know what to do. Her dream had always been to have a family and Nina seemed to have the perfect life, but was as perfect as she always thought? The secrets revealed will change her and the way to protect the ones she loves, but every action has a consequence, will she be ready to pay the price?
As I said in the beginning this book has surprised me, I loved the twists and subplots of the story, I was expecting a plot I am more or less used too but instead I found a hidden gem, an original plot that kept me addicted to the story to know how the author, Karen Hamilton, would resolve everything, because no matter how many possible endings I had in mind, none of them were perfect!
The Last Wife is a book that I recommend to any psychological thriller lover, you’ll not be able to stop reading, ready?

About The Author

Karen Hamilton spent her childhood in Angola, Zimbabwe, Belgium and Italy, and developed a love of travel through moving around so much. This led her to a career as a flight attendant, and it was in the air that she thought of the idea for her debut thriller The Perfect Girlfriend.
Karen is a recent graduate of the Faber Academy, and has now put down roots in Hampshire to raise her young family with her husband. The Perfect Girlfriend was a Sunday Times Top Ten bestseller in paperback. The Last Wife is her hotly anticipated second novel.
