About The Book

When Bergen PI Varg Veum finds himself at the funeral of a former classmate on a sleet-grey December afternoon, he’s unexpectedly reunited with his old friend Jakob – guitarist of the once-famous 1960s rock band The Harpers – and his estranged wife, Rebecca, Veum’s first love.
Their rekindled friendship is thrown into jeopardy by the discovery of a horrific murder, and Veum is forced to dig deep into his own adolescence and his darkest memories, to find a motive … and a killer.
Tense, vivid and deeply unsettling, Fallen Angels is the spellbinding, award-winning thriller that secured Gunnar Staalesen’s reputation as one of the world’s foremost crime writers.

My Thoughts

Childhood marks the character of people, depending on the memories you have from the past you’ll want to keep them as a treasure or to forget them forever.
In this book, PI Varg Veum, our main character will have to return to his past, return to where it pains him the most, with his old school friends. He has to go to a funeral from one of his older friends, however this reunion will lead to an investigation he did not expect. Full of secrets, hidden lies and memories, this is a book that you won’t be able to stop reading. Full of melancholy and friends, Varg will have to question his old friends knowing that some of them are hiding more than they tell and maybe one of them is the killer he is searching.
This is the 8th book of the Varg Veum series, you can read it as standalone, but the series is so good that it is worth starting from the beginning, atmospheric and intriguing you’ll be glued to these books!
This is maybe one of the slowest book of the series, but it fits with the story, it can’t be rushed, it makes the reader think about their own memories from childhood and the friends we had but lost after so many years. You’ll feel the pressure on the air since the first moment of the book, Varg is not happy to return or to have to question his friends, but in the end he is a police detective and his job is to discover the truth, no matter what.
This is a book to read slowly and let the darkness of it absorb you, you’ll fall in it, I am sure!Ready to discover Fallen Angels?
