About The Book

Animals rule the world. They hit cafes for breakfast then nine to five at the office, and fritter away evenings at jazz clubs. But paradise is still a distant dream, for there are devils amongst the angels.
Lucas Panda is missing; clues on the riverbank suggest he was probably kidnapped.
Enter Frank. Who else you gonna call? Hard-boiled penguin and the finest detective in town.
And meet his new partner, Detective Chico Monkey – yeah, the wise crackin’ kid with all the snappy suits.
But the stakes have been raised; three more creatures are missing and the citizens of Noah’s Kingdom are faced with possible extinction. Can the grouchy bird and plucky young ape save the city from doom? Or, will evil prevail and escape the claws of justice?
My Thoughts
Sometimes reading something different is what you need to do a reset in your day and change the mood. Because let’s be honest, this is not the usual read, with humans as main characters and a case to investigate, but the case is told by animals and investigated by them. Yes, sounds weird, but interesting and original, it is perfect to light up your mood in this eccentric world! 😉
This is a book for younger children, but I really enjoyed the read, so I would recommend it for any book lover, there’s a mystery on it, a missing panda detective but what I found interesting is how the author portrayed all the characters with their animal traits. So, they are not animals with human traits, but animals being animals living in a human’s world… I am not sure if I am explaining it right, but the characterization is really good, believe me.
The case is original and intriguing, with some unexpected twists and dark humor that will make the reader turn pages without noticing it!
“The City That Barks and Roars” is a very special story, I hope that this will be a series and I’ll see all these characters again, is like watching a Disney movie in a book! Ready?
About The Author

J T Bird is an award-winning stand-up comedian from North London, where he lives with his wife and child. His humble abode sits neatly between the former homes of HG Wells and Robert Louis Stevenson…so there’s no pressure to write something utterly successful and wonderful. He runs a comedy show for fresh new acts but has taken a break from performing to focus on writing novels -because it’s much more relaxing, and there’s far less chance of being heckled or struck by a bar stool.
