Perfect on Paper by Gillian Harvey
About The Book
It’s time to shake things up a little..
Clare Bailey’s life is perfect. Successful career, loving husband, two kids and a gorgeous townhouse. At least, that’s how it looks like from the outside.
In fact, she’s never felt more invisible. Her boss barely remembers her name, her husband is distracted by his new TV job and her daughter has never found her more embarrassing!
But when she’s given a chance to turn her life upside-down she wonders whether she should risk everything she loves for a life that’s more than just ‘perfect on paper’…?
This is an inspiring and refreshing book, to make you smile but to make you rethink your priorities and life.
Clare Bailey seems to have the “perfect life” but she feels invisible; at home, at work… So one day she decides to make something brave, to change her monotony, and share her poetry in a talent program. This will change her life, she will create her alter ego; Marta B, a rap singer that shares her deepest thoughts. She never thought that her thoughts and emotions would matter to anyone, but without even trying she will start a movement, the #MehToo.
This has been a funny book, but deep and realistic; it’s not difficult to feel Clare’s emotions and understand why she feels invisible. Her husband is only focused on his new work, new looks and new friends; while at work it seems that they are replacing her for younger flesh… I wouldn’t feel happy either in her place, but I loved how step by step she will start confronting her problems and feel more brave.
I have to say that I really enjoyed Martha B’s poetry, poignant and real, makes you see your own life with a different perspective. The only thing I missed is listening to the words directly from Martha B, it’s not the same with my voice!! 😉
This has been an enjoyable read, perfect to read any moment in life and for any age range; we all need from time to time to take a step further and be brave!
