About The Book

After eighteen-year-old Samuel finds himself in the middle of a drug deal gone wrong, he is forced to leave home in a hurry. Heading south, he finds refuge in a sleepy coastal town, working as a live-in assistant to the son of a wealthy family.
When the body of a young man washes up in Stockholm’s southern archipelago, investigator Manfred Olsson is called in to work the case. With his two-year-old daughter in a coma, he is reluctant to leave her bedside – but once another body is discovered, his search for the killer intensifies.
As Samuel adjusts to life under the radar, he begins to feel safe, even with a gang out for blood and the police on his trail. But it isn’t long before he realises that his sanctuary may be home to a deadly secret.
My Thoughts
I’ll admit that when you are visiting a Scandinavian country while reading a book based there, the chilling is more realistic and present.
I took this book with me while I visited the Faroe Islands a couple of weeks ago, and believe me, the cold, the weather, the people… it was like being part of the story without even noticing it. Of course without the killing part! 😉
I know that Scandinavian thrillers are slow paced, but I think they are so well plotted and full of emotions that if you want to rush them you’ll miss the core of the story, that it is not the killings per se but the characters’ story.
This is the story of Samuel; he will become involved with a drug gang and to escape, he will go to work on a small island. He thought he would be safe there, but then some bodies start to appearing. Are both cases related? Who are really the people Samuel is working for?
This case is full of layers and twists; secrets to discover and interesting characters to meet. I know that this was a slow paced story, but makes the story more intriguing and makes the reader impatient to discover the truth. And I think this is the way the author created the book, to make the reader impatient, while the story continues at its own pace.
This is a great read, perfect for cold nights this winter.
