About The Book

Monique is a preacher’s daughter who detests the impossible rules of her religion. Everyone expects her to wait until marriage, so she has no one to turn to when she discovers that she physically can’t have sex.
After two years of trying and failing, her boyfriend breaks up with her. To win him back, Monique teams up with straight-laced church girl Sasha–who is surprisingly knowledgeable about Monique’s condition–as well as Reggie, the misunderstood bad boy who always makes a ruckus at church, and together they embark upon a top-secret search for the cure.
While on their quest, Monique discovers the value of a true friend and the wonders of a love that accepts her for who she is. Despite everyone’s opinions about her virtue, she learns to live for herself, inspiring us all to reclaim our bodies and unapologetically love ourselves.

My Thoughts

A real book that we all should learn a little bit of!
This is a book that is targeted to teenagers/young adults; but I don’t think it should be the only ones reading it. I am an adult and I’ve learnt some things, so, I think it should be read in class and talked about!
I love how more and more, authors break down the barriers that surround sex, parents and the LGBT community. In a moment where everyone can find anything only by typing it on a computer, we should make the life easier for the young ones, talk about themes that worry/scare them, or if they can’t talk about it with their parents at least they still have books, exactly like this one!
This is a story about sex, religion, friendship and love. It is told in a way that it’s impossible to not feel connected with the characters and hate a few of them… also trying to understand how teenagers are preassured on all the corners with the sex theme. Parents, boyfriends, friends… I really don’t envy Monique’s situation, being the daughter of a preach with all the rules that mean it and then a boyfriend that only wants sex!
Read this book, you’ll love it and I can assure you’ll discover something new! 😉

About The Author

Joya Goffney grew up in New Waverly, a small town in East Texas. In high school, she challenged herself with to-do lists full of risk-taking items like ‘hug a random boy’ and ‘eat a cricket,’ which inspired her debut novel.
