About The Book
In a quiet village surrounded by centuries-old woods and the imposing Italian Alps, a series of violent assaults take place. Police inspector and profiler Teresa Battaglia is called back from the city when the first body is found in the woods, a naked man whose face has been disfigured and eyes gouged out.
Teresa quickly realises that the killer intends to strike again, and soon more victims are found – all having been subjected to horrendous mutilations. When a new-born baby is kidnapped, Teresa’s investigation becomes a race against the clock…
But Teresa is also fighting a different kind of battle: a battle against her own body, weighed down by age and diabetes, and her mind, once invincible and now slowly gnawing away at her memory…
This had been a really interesting read, not only for the gothic story but all the questions that the author puts on the reader mind, be prepared for an interesting case and a strong character detective, because it will not leave you indifferent.
The story is told between the past and the present, mixing perfectly and making the reader eager to discover more about the story and the case, where a body is found in a quiet village surrounded by ancient woods. But I am sure you are well aware of all the dangerous things that happen in the forest, scary and dangerous things, that will hunt you… Discovering the past will make you understand the present and all her consequences…
The case will be investigate by the Superintendent Teresa Battaglia, our female character, that will not have the sympathy of all the readers, she is in her 60’s and is starting to feel the age; be prepared for a sometimes rude character. But it was interesting reading how she needs to always be the bravest and the most intelligent, that if she fails no one will respect her. I suppose this is a society problem, that a woman with power can not be trusted, and this makes that if you are a woman always feel the pressure of failing, not being enough.
Be prepared for a case involving children, ghosts and disturbing situations, because these psychological thriller will be dark, really dark!
