About The Book

A brutal murder in the Lake District.
A double assassination in a secret lab in London’s west end.
Seemingly unconnected, unexpected links between the gruesome crimes emerge and it’s up to DI Kelly Porter to follow the trail – all the way to the capital.
Back amongst old colleagues and forced to work alongside her calculating ex, DCI Matt Carter, Kelly must untangle a web of deceit that stretches into the highest echelons of power. A place where secrets and lies are currency and no obstacle is insurmountable.

My Thoughts

If you’ve been following my blog, you’ve read a few of my thoughts of the previous books of the series, a must read, of course!
The cases of DI Kelly Porter never disappoint, in this case she will have to investigate a murder related to a lab in London that will make her work again with her ex-boyfriend DCI Matt Carver. This will be a high class case, so be prepared for some corruption and a quite complex case. This is one of the usual interesting cases our loved DI Kelly Porter has get us used to, so keep your next hours empty, you’ll not be able to put it down.
This is the fifth book of the series, and I think the main character, DCI Kelly Porter, has evolved and improved so much that every case that I’ve read I think it gets better on every book! Kelly is a brave and focused woman on her work but we will read a few drops of her personal life too; it seems that her relation with her boyfriend is going good and she is starting to connect with her father; while she is accepting the death of her mother…
I am always surprised by Kelly’s perseverance, she always tries to solve the cases even in the worst scenarios and with everything against her, she always fights to put the killers in prison for respect to the victim. I always wonder if the real detectives are so involved in cases and they fight so much to solve the murders.
This is not the first story of the detective, you can read it as standalone but I would recommend to start on the beginning, this series is worth the read!

About The Author

Rachel Lynch grew up in Cumbria and the lakes and fells are never far away from her.
London pulled her away to teach History and marry an Army Officer, whom she followed around the globe for thirteen years. A change of career after children led to personal training and sports therapy, but writing was always the overwhelming force driving the future. The human capacity for compassion as well as its descent into the brutal and murky world of crime are fundamental to her work.
