About The Book

When Carrie was accused of brutally murdering her husband’s lover, she denied it. She denied it when they arrested her, when they put her in front of a jury, and when they sent her to prison.
Now she’s three years into a fifteen-year sentence, away from the daughter she loves and the life she had built. And she is still denying that she is to blame.
Tess Gilroy has devoted her life to righting wrongs. Through her job for Innocence UK, a charity which takes on alleged miscarriages of justice, she works tirelessly to uncover the truth.
But when she is asked to take Carrie’s case, Tess realises that if she is to help this woman, she must risk uncovering the secrets she has struggled a lifetime to hide…
We’ve all done things we’re not proud of.

My Thoughts

What a read! Gripping and original, I couldn’t put it down!
I’ve always believe in second chances and that’s what Innocence UK do, to take a deep look at the cases were people claim to be innocently imprisoned. This is Tess Gilroy job, but when she starts looking at Carrie’s case she doesn’t know what to believe, is she telling the truth or is she guilty? The story is not clear and there seem to be some questions without answer. It will be Tess’ work to discover the truth.
This is a book were you will have doubts till the last page, is she innocent or guilty? I really liked how the case is presented, Tess is trying to take the decision to go to the court room to plead innocence, but she needs to be sure, so she will make her own investigation. The story will be told between Tess and Carrie story, their past and their present that will bring both to the point they are now. But there will be twists and surprises waiting for the reader, so expect to have doubts at every page.
There are lies and twists, but all in a human and real way; you can understand the characters and their actions; but as I always say, the truth always surfaces, no matter how hard you try!
It was an interesting case where someone has to make this difficult decision; to decide if someone is innocent or guilty to represent them in court. I am so used to the typical lawyers that doesn’t want to know the truth about their clients! So this had been twisted and original; with real characters and a possible real situation. The only question that remains is… Will they clear her name?
