The Apartment by K.L. Slater
About The Book
They say every cloud has a silver lining. . .
When Freya Miller is struck by tragedy, losing her husband and her home within a short time, she is burdened with many worries. The main one being where she and her five-year old daughter, Skye, are going to live. A chance meeting with the charismatic Dr. Marsden changes all that. He offers the young mother the most amazing opportunity; an apartment at one of London’s most exclusive addresses for a fraction of the market rental cost. It’s an offer Freya simply can’t refuse. Within a couple of weeks, Freya and Skye are moving into Adder House and meeting the other welcoming residents. They very quickly feel part of the family.
But just when Freya truly believes all her problems are history, a series of strange, unexplained occurrences begin. It leaves Freya with the unshakeable feeling that even when their apartment door is securely locked, she and her daughter are not alone. Freya thought she’d left all her troubles behind her yet she soon realizes there are problems here that are far more terrifying than before.
For behind the doors of Adder House, everything is most definitely not as it seems.
Old secrets refuse to stay buried and someone is determined to keep a terrible past, very much alive.
Having money problems is not easy when you have a little girl to take care and you can not afford the flat you are living, so when Freya Miller is offered the amazing opportunity to live at a beautiful house in one of the most expensive neighborhoods in London with her daughter, she can not say no. But as soon as they move in strange things start to happen and Freya starts to doubt if the apartment had a hidden price included…
I’ll have say that I didn’t read this book but, instead I was given an audiobook of a physical book but it was amazing to listening it and try to discover what’s really happening on The Apartment!
This story doesn’t have a lot of characters, is mainly based on Freya day to day and some memories from the past; a really scary experiment were a young boy and his mother were involved. But what relation has in the present? Could it be that someone is using Freya and her daughter as lab rats?
I really enjoyed this audiobook, it was scary and original, yes you know that someone in the block is using Freya and her daughter, but there are a few neighbors and you mistrust of each one of them, of course you’ll not know the truth till the end of the book! (no spoilers, sorry!)
I really like to recommend this audiobook to anyone that loves a good psychological thriller, it has all the things you need to keep you glued to the story.
Freya is a little bit ingenuous, I wouldn’t accept the offer in any case, if something smells bad it’s because there’s something hidden. But I could understand Freya’s need too and her need to be real and trying to trust them. But I suppose that’s the point of the story, how eager is your need to accept anything in exchange of nothing.
Take a chance on “The Apartment” I am sure you’ll like it!
