Cage by Lilja Sigurdardottir
About The Book
The prison doors slam shut behind Agla, when her sentence for financial misconduct ends, but her lover Sonja is not there to meet her.
As a group of foreign businessmen tries to draw Agla into an ingenious fraud that stretches from Iceland around the world, Agla and her former nemesis María find the stakes being raised at a terrifying speed. Ruthless entrepreneur Ingimar will stop at nothing to protect his empire, but he has no idea about the powder keg he is sitting on in his own home. And at the same time, a deadly threat to Sonja and her family brings her from London back to Iceland, where she needs to settle scores with longstanding adversaries if she wants to stay alive…
From time to time it’s interesting to read the point of view of the “bad people”, because we are used to read about the good detectives who discover always the killer, or the doctor that saves lives but what about the drug lords, the tax evader? The really bad people of the world, who writes about them? That’s Lilja Sigurdardottir work, and let me say that her work is so amazing that you even care what happens to them! Yes, because Lilja makes them human, with faults and problems, they didn’t start their road to the dark side per se, something has let them to that point even without them agreeing to it, they simply wanted to survive and that’s their only way to continue living.
Cage is not only a title on this book, it’s something much more deeper, it’s what all the characters on the story feel sometime on the story; the prison, the life, their family… Because, who has never felt in one moment of their life being in a cage?
In Cage we will meet the same characters of the previous books of the series, because this is the third one, Sonja, Agla, María… but maybe this time their life with change forever, best or worst? You’ll have to read the story to discover everything!
Cage has been a stoppable read, with really short chapters that reading them was like eating peanuts… just another one, they are so short… that in the end I finished the book without even noticing it! Because there are a few stories on the book working at the same time, all connected but at the same time all independent… There was some interesting background on the society and industry business of Iceland, it seems that even the small countries have big problems, the same as the big countries, it’s so sad!
This is an explosive read; original, twisted and perfect! I’ll miss a lot these characters if this is the end of the series, but it has been worth the trip! Ready to enter to the Cage?
