It Started With A Secret by Jill Mansell
About The Book
The trouble with secrets is that you can’t guess what the consequences will be . . .
Lainey has just lost everything. Luckily one little fib (OK, quite a big fib) helps nail her dream job. Soon she’s living in a stunning house by the sea, fending off obsessed fans for a retired – if far-from-retiring – actor and organising his charming but chaotic family. Yes, everyone thinks she’s part of a couple and it’s tricky keeping this secret. But at least she’s not looking for love: with her disastrous relationship history, men are definitely off the agenda.
Except Seth, the actor’s grandson, really is very attractive.
There’s growing chemistry and a definite connection between them. What would happen if he knew the truth?
But Lainey’s not the only one with a secret – it seems everyone has them! And they’re all about to start unravelling…
Lainey needs a new job after the bed and breakfast she was working in France closes the doors. So when she sees a job offer asking for a couple to take care of a “messy” family, she and her friend Kit decide to tell a white lie to the family and pretend to be the couple the family thinks they need! Funny and original “It Started With A Family” is the read you need when you need a holiday from your life!
I like the core of the story, how all your surroundings can change with a secret, for good or bad, but a secret that changes you completely. There are a few secrets on this story that keep the reader wanting to know how the story will continue after the revelations, because I am sure that you are aware that no matter how much you try to keep a secret the truth will always surface!
This story is full of characters and little stories that makes the book rich and complex, because all of them connect in one way or the other and make the reader eager to know everything! I think that some books are best when you know less, this is one of those books, don’t ask for what’s about or where, simply let the author drive the story in their own way and enjoy the trip.
I haven’t read many books of Jill Mansell but after reading “It Started With A Secret” I will search for more books of her! They are perfect to disconnect from the daily stress and let your mind flow to a sweet story with vivid colours and complex characters.
