A Body in the Bookshop by Helen Cox
About The Book
Librarian Kitt Hartley and her friend Evie Bowes thought their life had gone back to normal after the shocking events of Murder by the Minster. Then DI Malcolm Halloran breaks some bad news: DS Charlotte Banks has been suspended from duty, on suspicion of assaulting the suspect in the burglary of a local bookshop.
Evie wants justice for Charlotte, who she is sure was not the attacker, and how could any self-respecting librarian turn down the chance to find missing rare books? The two friends team up once again to investigate the rarefied world of York’s bookshops and antiques dealers and find out just who has framed their friend.
But Kitt and Evie will soon learn that there are some books people will kill for – will this story have a happy ending?
Kitt Hartley and her friend Evie Bowes seem to have a magnet to become involved in murder cases; lucky for them now they have friends at the police station who will make her hobby easier and safer! This case will be more focused on Evie’s character, there’s been a robbery and the main suspect is beaten, the problem is that the police suspects that it was a police officer who beat the suspect, Charlie Banks, an Evie and Kitt friend. As you can imagine the case will not be so easy as the police thinks, the robbery will be only the tip of the iceberg. Ready?
I had a great time reading this book; there’s mystery, friendship, love and of course books! But, I loved Kitt and Mal’s chemistry on the previous book of the series and I felt a little disappointed in this one, they are not really part of the case, simply as secondaries and I didn’t feel the same connection with Evie, who was the one leading the story. Don’t get me wrong, the story is quickly paced, original, twisted and as much as you can expect in a cozy mystery, but I loved Kitt and Mal and I felt a little bit lost without them in the story.
After reading Kitt’s story I always feel like I have to go to a bookshop and let the mystery books fell into my hands and start reading! Kitt always talks about so many famous mystery authors and books that I feel like I haven’t read enough of their books!
If you are looking for a mystery book with some surprising twists and some real characters, this is the book you have to read, it is worth every page! Ready to enter?
