My Thoughts

What happens when you find your soul mate but you are both already married? You decide to leave your respective partners and take an amazing trip together! Sounds like the perfect romance, am I right? Sadly, this will not be the happy ending Ruby will have, when she decides to leave her bully husband and meet Harry in their special place, she will not find Harry at all… What has happened that changed his mind? And why did he take his wife on their planned trip? So many questions! Of course you’ll have to read this book if you want to know all the answers! 😉
I am sure that I am not the only one struggling these days with books, I love reading, but I find it quite difficult to focus on them, so when one intrigues me since the beginning I know that it will be a good read!
The Closer You Get is a psychological thriller; it ticks all the boxes for being interesting: twisted plot, surprises, lies… but what makes the book so addictive are the characters. Because the story is told between Ruby and Emma, Harry’s wife, and seeing the story with both perspectives adds a profundity to the story that I don’t normally read on other books. The readers are used to read the side of the “cheater” or the “poor wife” but not both at the same time. I will not justify Ruby on cheating her husband, but I will not say that I like her husband either, she should have leaved him a long time ago… That’s what gives you this story, two marriages, none of them is perfect, but each of them had their own motive to continue married. So, why now? This will be the question that will pop all the time to your mind… something doesn’t feel right, and Ruby seems to be the only one affected in all of this, could there be an ulterior motive?
Yes, I know there are so many questions to answer! But, that’s what I love of an addictive read, that you want to know all the answers and can’t stop reading till you have them!
The Closer You Get is a twisted story perfect for any moment, it will keep you guessing till the end! Ready?

Mary Torjussen has an MA in Creative Writing from Liverpool John Moores University and worked for several years as a teacher. She is the author of two novels, Gone Without a Trace and The Girl I Used to Be, and her new novel will be published in 2020. She writes dark, gripping thrillers and her debut novel, published in several international territories, has been optioned for television by Ecosse Productions.
