About The Book

Who will heed the call when Death comes whispering?
Small time drug dealer, Marcus Stone and DCI Clive Burston had never met until one night in August. By the end of that night, both had been shot dead in a small bedroom in the heart of gang territory.
DI Erika Piper is called to the scene but is at a loss to explain what’s happened. How did these two even meet, let alone end up dead in what appears to be a strange murder-suicide?
As Erika leads the investigation, another two bodies are found, killed in a similar fashion. One murder, one suicide. But who is controlling this macarbre puppet show?
As Erika delves deeper into the lives of the dead, the pieces begin to fit together and a number of nefarious characters crawl out of the woodwork – one of whom is almost certainly pulling the strings.
A catastrophic event and a personal miracle threaten to derail the investigation. Erika must find the strength to continue, before the whispers catch up with her too…

My Thoughts

Everyone has a double side, a side we keep to the rest of the world, our private and secret part that can make us vulnerable.
This is a crime book, where since the first moment you know that it will be dark and twisted (you have to read the prologue, amazing!); it seems that in every scene of a crime they appear two bodies, one that seem a suicide and the other one a murder. Who can be creating these bizarre scenes? And what is the relation between the two people? The case will be investigated by DI Erika Piper and her team, they are intelligent and brave and will not stop till they discover the truth, even if they have to search in the worst places…
This is the second book of the DI Erika Piper series, but you will not feel lost during the story, there’s some background of the case and how it has affected the main characters of the story; how it changed them.
This is a quick read, once you start reading it is impossible to put down, but not only for the mystery but for the chemistry you feel with the characters. They are complex and human, they try to uncover the truth even if they affect them, not something easy to do, but being a police is not something easy, you have to see the worst in the society.
I really recommend to read the previous book instead of starting this series with this one, you’ll get fond of the characters and will want to know more about them, I can assure you!
