About The Book

In a grimy flat in Glasgow, a homemade bomb explodes, leaving few remains to identify its maker.
Detective Harry McCoy knows in his gut that there’ll be more to follow. The hunt for a missing sailor from the local US naval base leads him to the secretive group behind the bomb, and their disturbing, dominating leader.
On top of that, McCoy thinks he’s doing an old friend a favour when he passes on a warning, but instead he’s pulled into a vicious gang feud. And in the meantime, there’s word another bigger explosion is coming Glasgow’s way – so if the city is to survive, it’ll take everything McCoy’s got …

My Thoughts

This is one of my top books for this year, impossible to stop thinking about it!
I’ll admit that this is not my first read from the Harry McCoy series, this is the fourth, but you can read it as standalone, the characters are well detailed and even if there are some references from the past, they are not a part of the story, just a little! 😉
As always, Harry McCoy doesn’t have only one case in his hands, expect multiple plots, menaces and dangerous people that threaten his life. He is not a bad person, but protecting his friends (even Irish friends) in 1974 is dangerous, and if they have alliances with the IRA is almost like dancing with the dead.
I don’t want to talk much about the case, you’ll only have to know that someone is putting bombs around Glasgow, the police have no idea who is threatening them, no clues or any organization seems related to it…
And then, we have a desperate American father, searching for his sailor son that has been missing for a few days. McCoy, as always, will not be able to say no to help him on the search. Of course, in his free time…
This is a multi-layered story, so many plots connected with McCoy and their friends that I was turning pages afraid of what I’ll discover all the time. Because, let’s be honest, McCoy tries to be the hard man, the one who can take anything, but he has a soft spot, his friends, and he will do whatever he can to protect them.
If you are looking for an amazing read, this is the one, full stop.
Are you ready for “The April Dead”?
