Real Men Knit by Kwana Jackson
About The Book
Kerry Fuller has worked at Joy Strong’s knitting shop – Strong Knits – for years. And she’s had a secret crush on Joy’s son, heartbreaker Jesse Strong, for even longer.
When Joy unexpectedly passes away, Jesse vows that he will keep the shop open, no matter what. And with no idea of where to start, he reaches out to Kerry for help. Soon Kerry is teaching Jesse all the knitty-gritty parts of the business – all the while trying to keep her heart from getting broken.
The longer they spend together, the closer they become. But Kerry doesn’t believe their relationship can last longer than she can knit one, purl one. It’s up to Jesse to prove her wrong…
What makes you want to read a book?
For me it depends; the cover, the title, the author and sometimes the plot. In this case it was the title, I loved it; it was provocative and a way to make you think of how this world still moves depending on genres; because why can’t men knit?
I’ll admit that I don’t have men in my family/friends circle that can knit. They can sew a button or even “try” to repair a hole in the clothes, but sewing? No way!
This had been a sweet and cute story; how four adopted brothers try to save their “Mama Joy” knit shop with the help of an old family friend to
Even if this is a slow burning romance, it was easy to love the interaction between the brothers and how they grieve with the loss in their own way. And for me, the part of the family and brother’s relationship was more important than the romance. It was very nice to see how they try to create a little business in Harlem, the community and the neighbors; they are an important part of the story.
The romance? It is there, you can see the chemistry between Jessy and Kerry, but there’s no fire, a slow burn that will grow page by page till the end.
I hope this will not be the only book featuring the Strong family, I think there’s a lot of background for these characters to tell that I would love to discover in future books!
