Freckles by Cecelia Ahern
About The Book
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with…
When a stranger utters these words to Allegra Bird, nicknamed Freckles, it turns her highly ordered life upside down. In her current life as a parking warden, she has left her eccentric father and unconventional childhood behind for a bold new life in the city.
But a single encounter leads her to ask the question she’s been avoiding for so long: who are the people who made her the way she is? And who are the five people who can shape and determine her future? Just as she once joined the freckles on her skin to mirror the constellations in the night sky, she must once again look for connections.
Told in Allegra’s vivid, original voice, moving from Dublin to the fierce Atlantic coast, this is an unforgettable story of human connection, of friendship, and growing into your own skin.
Five people. Five stars. Freckle to freckle. Star to star.
I wanted to read this book because I feel connected with the blurb of the book; I know what it is to work with people day after day and how they can insult you without even blinking their eyes. Once they told me “I wasn’t paid for thinking”… my reply was the biggest smile I ever made and fire with my eyes; I didn’t reply verbally to them, but I think they could see that my answer would not have been nice. I am surprised how people can insult you and you will remember the damaging words for a long time while they have forgot it a few minutes after.
So, when Allegra Bird, our main character, is told that the five people that surround her are the ones that make her the way she is, this sticks with her. She is not happy with her life and choices she had made; and maybe now it’s the moment to take a step back and see if her decisions could change or make her a better of herself.
This is a book that will transport to Ireland; the small communities and the “lovely” weather; full of interesting characters and an interesting story to share.
Allegra is not the sweet character you’ll meet; it’s difficult and not perfect, but I think this is what makes the reader want to know more about her and the story. And even if at the beginning it’s a little difficult to follow the plot, after a few pages you can start seeing the thread and want to know more about it!
“Freckles” is a warm and real story, are you ready for it?
