About The Book

Lucy is on assignment. A wild, reclusive writer awaits her. She wants his life story. He wants her everything. A whirlwind romance takes them to the highs and lows of Deià. But beneath them lie the bodies of a generation and as Lucy unearths the darkness, her own skeletons begin to rattle the closet.
Is she doomed to repeat the patterns of her childhood abuse? Can narcissists change their ways? And what is that tapping on Villa Rosa’s pipes?

My Thoughts

I wanted to read this book fully aware that it would not be an easy read, that even if Mallorca is beautiful and there are some amazing people living there, I was ready to read a dark and disturbing book about obsession, childhood abuse and the Spanish Civil War. And I suppose that being Catalan and knowing all the horrible details of the war, made this book more realistic and bitter; a past that we can’t change but a future that is held forever with the pain of those horrible days.
I have to say that this is a book written beautifully, but it’s not an easy read; you’ll be angry and claustrophobic as the story progresses. The need to shout to Lucy to leave the Villa and from Miguel’s toxic relationship, where she uses her as he wants.
This is not a story easy to read, I needed some time to think and breathe from all the toxic situations told in the story but at the same time impossible to not wonder how both characters ended in the present. The past always leaves a mark on us, for good or bad… the main question is, do we have the tools to cut off the chains of the past and be free?
Of course you’ll have to read this book if you want to know all the answers.
