About The Book
Two murders. An abandoned asylum. Will a mysterious former patient help untangle the dark truth?
The body of an elderly woman is been found in the grounds of a derelict asylum on the banks of the Thames. As Detective Lew Kirby and his partner begin their
investigation, another body is discovered in the river nearby. Gradually, the secrets of Blackwater Asylum begin to reveal themselves; there are rumours of secret rooms, unspeakable psychological experimentation and a dark force that haunts the ruins. Urban explorer Connie Darke has her own interest in the asylum; it’s where her sister died in a freak accident and she’s determined to help Kirby expose its grisly past. Meanwhile Kirby discovers a devastating family secret that threatens to turn his life upside down. As his world crumbles around him, Kirby must put the pieces of the puzzle together to keep the killer from striking again. Only an eccentric former patient knows the truth—but will he reveal it to Kirby or Connie before it’s too late?
My Thoughts
If you ever walk around an abandoned asylum, be careful since there’s a high probability that there’s a body nearby! Really, just the thoughts of an empty asylum makes me goosebumps, don’t you?
This book will not be different on the asylum theme, there’s a body of a woman found at the Blackwater Asylum and so many questions about it that Detective Lew Kirby will not have an easy case. Because the most important question of the killing will not be who it is and why was she killed but how they entered to the asylum, so remote and with a difficult access this murder has not been easy.
I am always looking forward for an interesting case with real characters on it, because the detective Lew Kirby is approachable and intelligent, a normal person only with a difficult job. On the other side we will have Connie Darke, she is related to the investigation and can’t stop wanting to know what really happened. But don’t worry, in the moments of danger she will ask for help, she knows her limits! 😉
I always love a good story where the reader can make their own assumptions and discover the culprit before the detective. It’s like watching an old episode of “A Murder She Wrote” in my own head.
This is one of those books that keep you entertained all the story and makes you want to know more about the characters and their stories, I really hope this will not be the only story with Lew and Connie.
About The Author
SW Kane studied History of Design and worked at the RIBA before taking on a series of totally unrelated jobs in radio and the music industry, where she still works as a freelance music PR. She has an MA in Creative (Crime) Writing from City University.
She began reading crime fiction from an early age and developed an obsession with crime set in cold places. A chance encounter with a derelict fort in rural
Pembrokeshire led to a fascination with urban exploration, which in turn became the inspiration for her crime novels. She lives London.
Been a LONG while since I read a good thriller and this one sounds perfect to break that record! I didn’t know about this author before and I am soo thankful to you for introducing me to her! ❤ 🙂
