About The Book

If they ever catch you, say nothing. Admit nothing. Never tell.
Mercy Callahan never thought she’d be able to talk about her past. When she arrives in Sacramento to make peace with her brother Gideon, and to help find the brutal cult that took away her childhood, she is finally ready to talk. But when Ephraim Burton – the man who made her life a living
hell – follows her there, she realises she might never be safe.
Rafe Sokolov would do anything to have Mercy back in his life and would go to any length to protect her. But when it becomes apparent that Ephraim is more determined than ever to get Mercy back, even Rafe might not be able to stop the trail of destruction he leaves in his wake. As Ephraim draws
near, it’s clear it’s not just Mercy who is in danger; those closest to her are firmly in his sights.
Will Mercy sacrifice herself to help bring Ephraim down? Or will he finally get what he’s always wanted…

My Thoughts

Childhood can be an amazing experience or something you want to forget for the rest of your life.
This is the story of Mercy Callahan, she was part of a cult, Eden, 17 years ago, now they want her back no matter what. It’s time to face the truth and fight for her life and family. Would you like to accompany her?
I’ll start saying that this is the second book of the Sacramento series, you can read it as standalone, the connections and characters are fully explained and you will not feel lost on the plot, but you can always start from the beginning. I really like this series, so believe me when I’ll say it is worth the read.
I have to say that this is a series I am enjoying a lot, it’s not a short book, but it doesn’t matter how many pages the stories by Karen Rose write, they are never boring or too long, I would read gladly 1000 pages more of this story! The plot is not only focused on Mercy’s past and present, but her friends and “family”, how they all try to help her to recover the memories from Eden and stop the danger that is hunting her life. There will be more characters involved on the plot; the dangerous and killer Ephraim Burton, a young journalist, some members of the cult… they will all have an important part in the story, making it more rich and interesting. As always, when I am reading a Karen Rose book, in the end I want to know more about how all the characters continue with their lives and try to discover who will be the next main character on the next book.
This is not a story where you don’t know who the killer is or the motive, the mystery is Eden, how they keep hiding from everyone and what’s their secret. We will have some answers in this book, but not all, I hope we will know more in the next story.
This is a book that will keep you awake at night and reading all day till the last page, with a little bit of romance and some action, it will keep you turning pages till the end. Ready?
