About The Book

The Kendrick family have been making world-famous dolls for over 200 years. But their dolls aren’t coveted for the craftsmanship alone. Each one has a specific emotion laid on it by its creator. A magic that can make you feel bucolic bliss or consuming paranoia at a single touch. Though founded by sisters, now only men may know the secrets of the workshop.
Persephone Kendrick longs to break tradition and learn her ancestors’ craft, and when a handsome stranger arrives claiming doll-making talent and blood ties to the family, she sees a chance to grasp all she desires.
But then, one night, the firm’s most valuable doll is stolen. Only someone with knowledge of magic could have taken her. Only a Kendrick could have committed this crime…

My Thoughts

This is a book that mixes reality and fiction; magic and fables with sexism and lies.
With a beautiful prose, this book will absorb you to its world, where magic exists but women are only the servants, they can’t never have the power to be “Sorcerers”, only men with the family blood on them.
I feel connected with Persephone since the beginning, she is tired of being excluded and ignored all of her life, she works in the family business, one recognized around the world of making magic dolls, but she is not allowed to be part of the creation, she is the seller of their shop. But her life will change when an unexpected customer (Larkin) will enter into her life, he says that he is part of the family, a descendant of one of the sisters founder; and now wants to be part of the business too. This will share the core of the family, the truth will be said and the lies will be exposed, maybe Larkin has a secret agenda, but this family needs a change!
I was surprised how this book mixes magic and reality making it a perfect mix, I loved the idea that a doll could make you feel some strong emotions!
This is a mystery book, there’s a doll missing and all the family are the main suspects of the robbery, but what really matters is all the complex relationships between all the members of the family and how all of them resent the actual owner of the Kendricks Workshop but they aren’t brave enough to speak out loud.
This is a story of love, family and secrets, told beautifully it will enchant any reader, believe me.
